§ 22-211. Streets Named In Memoriam.

Latest version.
  • Family members of Sarasota County public servants killed in the line of duty may request that the Board of County Commissioners name a street in memory of the deceased. The memorial street name may be an existing street or new street. For existing streets, an additional sign will be added to existing street signs, thus allowing for the continued use of the original street name and addresses. The "In Memoriam" sign may contain unique colors and/or symbols pertaining to the public service of the deceased, but otherwise shall be in accord with the requirements of this Article. Sarasota County shall not be responsible for either obtaining or financing the "In Memoriam signs." If an application is made to name a new street in memory of the deceased, the name shall be approved in accordance with this Article. "In Memoriam" Street names shall not be used on a U.S., State, and Interstate highway.
