§ 22-33. Adoption of building codes.

  • (a)

    Except as otherwise provided by this article, Sarasota County adopts by reference the following codes:

    (1)

    Florida Building Code;

    (2)

    Part III and Part IV only of the Florida Irrigation Society, Inc., Standards and Specification for Turf and Landscape Irrigation Systems, 2nd Edition, November, 1989;

    (3)

    Anchor and Tie-down Installation Standards for, Mobile/Manufactured Homes and Park Trailers adopted by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in Sections 15C-1.0101, et seq., Florida Administrative Code.

    If Florida Statutes or the Florida Administrative Code should require a more recent edition of any of the codes adopted by this article, then the subsequent edition shall be deemed to be adopted without any further amendment to this article.

    (b)

    Chapter 1 of the Florida Building Code, as amended by this article, shall provide for the administration of all codes adopted by this article.

    (c)

    Notwithstanding any other provision of this article, nothing herein shall be deemed to authorize or create a duty or responsibility on the part of the County and its officers, agents, and employees to assure or guarantee construction and work in compliance with this article or the plans and specifications submitted thereunder. No expectation based upon any permits or approvals issued hereunder should arise that construction and work performed pursuant to said permits or approvals does in fact comply with this article or the plans and specifications submitted thereunder. Any person desiring to assure such compliance or ascertain the extent of compliance should seek the assistance of independent persons qualified to perform such evaluations.

    (d)

    Basic Wind Speed. The ultimate design wind speed in miles per hour, determined by the most current addition [edition] of the Florida Building Code, shall apply within Sarasota County. The exact location of the ultimate design wind speeds, depending on the risk category and location are identified on Sarasota County's GIS map.
